Spot fishing continued at a steady pace on ocean piers along the northern beaches Wednesday.
Kitty Hawk Pier reported plenty of spot and a few bluefish taken.
Avalon Pier anglers caught good numbers of spot, some black drum and a few croaker, some weighing as much as 2 1/2 pounds. Some tailor blues were taken on cut bait.
Some nice-sized speckled trout were taken on bucktails from Nags Head Pier. The fish were well inshore. A few bluefish, pompano and black drum also were taken. Spot fishing was good during the afternoon.
Fishermen on Jennette's Pier landed a mixture of fish including spot, mullet, pompano, black drum and croaker weighing as much as 2 pounds.
Spot, sea mullet, bluefish, black drum and a few speckled trout were decked on Outer Banks Pier.
South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier caught sea mullet and spot. Several puppy drum, a few mullet and some croaker were taken on Avon Pier. Frisco Pier reported slow fishing, with only a few bottom fish landed.
Surf fishing from Corolla to Oregon Inlet was slow because of fairly heavy seas.
Some bottom fish, tailor blues and puppy drum were beached around Oregon Inlet. Some nice gray trout were landed from the catwalk on the south end of the Bonner Bridge.
Scattered puppy drum and bottom fish were taken along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. Puppy drum were taken Tuesday night and during the day Wednesday at Cape Point.
Small bottom fish were plentiful in the surf from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.
Headboat action around Oregon Inlet was fair, with a few pigfish, sea bass, small bluefish and small gray trout taken.
Offshore action was minimal off Oregon Inlet and Hatteras because of gusty winds and choppy seas.
Spot fishing should continue to be good along the Dare coast until the winds slacken and inshore water clears.
The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 72 degrees Wednesday. by CNB
