MARY E. BURROUGHS

Mary E. Burroughs, of the 1400 block of Cavalier Blvd., died Oct. 11, 1995, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

She was a retired educator for Portsmouth City Public School System where she worked for 46 years. Mrs. Burroughs was a native of Portsmouth and was a member of Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Portsmouth. She was a member of numerous church organizations and clubs and she held various positions and offices in the church. She was a member of many educational associations and the Portsmouth Teachers Association. She was also a member of a number of social clubs and was a sorority member.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Burroughs; two sisters, Martha E. Watson and Garnette E. Lavender, both of Portsmouth; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Monday by the Rev. James F. Mason in Emanuel A.M.E. Church. Burial is in Lincoln Memorial Church, Portsmouth. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
