ADMIRALS' MACINTYRE SUSPENDED BY ECHL FOR PENALTY-BOX FIGHT

The Hampton Roads Admirals gained a player Thursday, but lost another indefinitely.

Third-year defenseman Jason MacIntyre has been suspended for fighting in the penalty box Tuesday during an exhibition game in Roanoke. ECHL commissioner Pat Kelly told the Admirals that MacIntyre will remain suspended until he has had time to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, the Admirals signed left wing Sean Selmser, the last cut of the Cleveland Lumberbacks of the International Hockey League.

Selmser played junior hockey last season for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, where he had 11 goals and 17 assists in 33 games. The Calgary, Ont. native is expected to play Saturday when the Admirals open the regular season in Charlotte.

Head coach John Brophy expects another player or two from Cleveland, and Portland of the American Hockey League, the team's two major affiliates, before the Admirals open their home schedule next Wednesday against Raleigh.

Brophy spent a week in camp with the Lumberjacks and came away impressed with Selmser.

``John thinks he's a quality player,'' Admirals president Blake Cullen said. ``We've had good luck with players from the Western Hockey League. It may the be fastest and roughest of the junior leagues.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photo
