Pruden Packing Company of Suffolk was recently awarded the overall Grand Champion Ribbon for its smoked ham entry in the annual Virginia State Fair Ham Show. The ham also captured first in its class of commercially dry cured hams.
The award gives Pruden a clean sweep of the industry's 1995 contests. In April, Pruden won the Grand Champion Award at the 28th Annual Ham Show sponsored by the Virginia Tech Block and Bridle Club in Blacksburg.
In both contests, hams are judged on appearance, quality, color of lean, aroma, flavor and texture.
