Police on Saturday identified the woman who died in a two-car wreck late Friday as Mary L. Blendsoe, 61, of the 800 block of Hayes Street.
The driver of the car in which Blendsoe was riding has been identified as 73-year-old John Webb, of the 2300 block of Hale St.
The accident happened just after 8 p.m. in the 3900 block of Granby St. Police said Webb and Blendsoe were in a 1974 Ford heading north when Webb started to turn onto Pennsylvania Avenue, and veered into the path of a BMW driving south on Granby Street.
The BMW struck the Ford broadside, police said.
A newspaper report Saturday incorrectly stated there were two women in the Ford.
Blendsoe was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she died.
No one in the BMW was reported seriously injured. The name of the BMW driver wasn't released.
Police said charges in the accident are pending.
