OJALA HOLDS OFF STROBLE FOR SENIOR SERIES WIN

Dave Ojala won the Senior Series Tournament at Greenbrier Country Club Saturday with a three-day total of 208 that was two shots better than Bobby Stroble.

The victory was Ojala's first on the Senior Series, while Stroble's runner-up finish was his third of the year to go with two wins, one of which was at last week's stop in Louisville.

Ojala, a 50-year-old from Kingswood, Texas, collected $15,000 for his efforts and Stroble won $9,800 of the $100,000 purse for his runner-up performance.

Ojala had to adjust his game due to wind and rain. He used his practice time to hit balls into the wind.

``The wind made all the holes play opposite,'' Ojala said.

Ojala tried not to think who was behind him as the end came near. But he couldn't help himself, considering that it was the series' season money leader, Stroble, on his trail.

``All you can do is just play,'' Ojala said. ``But I wanted to know what Bobby did.

``I knew if I parred 17, I was in good shape. The critical hole was 17. Once I parred 17, that took the pressure off.''

Stroble, a resident of Miramar, Fla., was pleased with his three-under-par 69 in the final round and his showing in the tournament.

``All in all, I'm happy,'' the 50-year-old said. ``I gave myself a chance to win. It was (Ojala's) tournament to win. I pushed him but he was able to hold on.''

Dr. Juan Montero, president and founder of Chesapeake Care and Free Clinic, accepted a check for $1,000 from Tom and Jerri Brame, the chairman and chairwoman of Global Sports, which is the sponsor of the Senior Series. by CNB
