DONALD L. MALLORY

Col. Donald L. Mallory, USMC (Ret.), 78, of Chesapeake, died Oct. 14, 1995, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

A native of Bridgeport, Conn., Col. Mallory retired after 28 years of dedicated service to his country. He is a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism as a Company Commander while serving with the Fifth Marine First Division on Peleliu, Palau Islands in 1944. He also has been awarded during his career, the Purple Heart twice, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, along with the Legion of Merit and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Mallory; two daughters, Susan Wiggins of Oakton, Va., Sharon Young of Ft. Worth, Texas; step-son, James E. Freedman of Chesapeake; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be conduted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. by Pastor U.G. Robertson at Central Baptist Church. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors today from 6 to 8 p.m. in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Central Baptist Church in memory of Col. Donald Mallory, 1200 Hodges Ferry Road, Portsmouth, 23701.
