Hunting season is upon us, and the Hunters for the Hungry program is prepared to provide more than 100,000 pounds of venison to the less fortunate of the state. All this meat is donated by successful hunters in Virginia.
Often, hunting is portrayed negatively. We would like to point out the positive contribution hunters make by sharing their success with the needy.
In four years of operation, Hunters for the Hungry has distributed more than a quarter of a million pounds of quality venison.
Hunters for the Hungry operates by receiving deer donated by hunters, raising funds to cover the cost of processing the meat and providing the venison to food banks or other local charities for distribution. We hope that as word of our program spreads, others, both in and out of the hunting community, will join our effort.
All financial contributions are fully tax deductible and enable us to do more for those in need.
Much more can be done. We believe that as our base of support grows, Virginia's hunters will be able to provide nearly 200,000 pounds of venison annually for the needy.
