Lewis Washington Davis, 90, of the 26000 block of Rochelle St., died Oct. 16, 1995, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Jesse Benjamin and Bessie Gillette Davis. He was the widower of Thelma Hundley Davis. He had retired after 41 years as a heavy-equipment operator with the Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of the Courtland United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by a son, Lewis Holmes Davis and his wife, Leona, of Courtland; a sister, Jessie Davis Marks of Hunterdale; two grandsons, Lewis Holmes Davis Jr. and his wife, Betty, and Benjamin Arthur Davis; and a great-grandson, Grayson Lewis Davis.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. John Wimer. Memorial donations may be made to the Courtland United Methodist Church. Wright Funeral Home in charge.
