WOMAN IS SHOT

A 23-year-old woman was shot by a police officer early Tuesday morning after she attempted to stab her boyfriend, police spokesman Larry Hill said.

The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. when police responded to a domestic dispute call in the 1100 block of Jernigan Ave. When they arrived they were met by the complainant, Derrick Taylor, 24, Hill said.

The officers and Taylor went to the apartment where his girlfriend, Donna Rhodes, was waiting inside. Hill said Rhodes, 23, was shot when she ran out with a knife and tried to stab Taylor.

Rhodes was listed in stable condition at a hospital Tuesday. Charges were pending, Hill said.

The officer involved in the shooting was assigned administrative duties with pay, Hill said. The shooting is being investigated by the commonwealth's attorney's office.
