MARION W. BRYANT

Marion Ward Bryant, 71, of the 600 block of Giles Court, died Oct. 19, 1995.

A native of Suffolk, he was a son of the late Mary Vaughan and Robert Vinette Bryant Sr. Mr. Bryant retired from the Suffolk Police Department after 45 years of service, as a major and deputy chief. He was a World War II Army veteran, 29th Division, and participated in the Normandy invasion. He attended Christ Community United Church of Christ in Monroe, N.C., and was a member of Suffolk Christian Church in Suffolk.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Howell Bryant; two daughters, Brenda Matthews and Donna Shuman, both of Matthews; a son, Staley Bryant of Douglasville, Ga.; one granddaughter, Allison Bryant; a sister, Irvy Plunkett of Marion, N.C.; and an aunt, Gracie Dailey of Suffolk.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home, Suffolk, by Dr. Bruce Havens and the Rev. James E. Humphrey. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434, or to Christ Community United Church of Christ, 5114 Rogers Road, Monroe, N.C. 28110.
