Nansemond-Suffolk Academy avenged its only loss of the season Thursday night with a 59-56 victory over Norfolk Academy in a Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools girls basketball matchup.
Lea Wilson scored 12 of her team-high 18 points in the second half for the Saints, who improved to 7-0 in the league and 18-1 overall.
N-SA opened with a 14-11 first quarter, capitalizing on six Bulldogs turnovers and two blocked shots and steals by Jill VanGuilder.
Norfolk Academy (19-1, 6-1), sparked by Kendra Robins' 13 first half points, cut the Saints lead to 29-28 before intermission when Laura Morgan converted a rebound and sank the ensuing free throw with a second to play in the quarter.
The two teams exchanged baskets to start the third until Norfolk Academy took its first lead of the game with 5:54 to go when Angie Hucles came up with a steal and hit Kate Rowen to make it 36-35.
But the Saints regained the lead for good at the 2:35 mark as Wilson went on an eight-point spree.
With 17 seconds left, Robins, who finished with a game-high 29 points, pulled her team within two by draining one of her four treys before Allison Dunn sealed the Saints' win with a free thow. by CNB
