Merrill H. Hawkins, 82, of the 400 block of Briarfield Drive, died Oct. 23, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Davy, W.Va., and was the son of the late Edward and Flora Perkins Hawkins. He was a master electrician and the retired owner of the Maintenance Electric Company. He was a member of Great Bridge United Methodist Church, a member of its administrative board, and past president of Methodist Men. He was an ardent fisherman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Shelton Hawkins; three daughters, Joyce Kirkwood and Judy Downs, both of Virginia Beach, and Flora Burns of Norfolk; one son, Jim E. Hawkins of Raleigh, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Joyce Holliday of Chesapeake; four stepsons, William Lee Holliday of Virginia Beach, James A. Holliday of Chesapeake, Paul C. Holliday of Suffolk, and S.E. Holliday of Hampton; two brothers, Joe A. Hawkins of Crystal River, Fla., and James Hawkins of Tallahassee, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Robert Hastings. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Great Bridge United Methodist Church.
