Benjamin T. Tatem Sr., 81, of the 1900 block of Gum Bridge Road, died Oct. 22, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Tatem retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1969 after 29 1/2 years of service. He was also a retired farmer. Mr. Tatem, the widower of Bessie Elizabeth Tatem, was a native of Vaughantown, Princess Anne County.
Survivors include six daughters, Marie M. Rivera and Libby Ward, both of Virginia Beach, Shirley Charleston of Winthrop, N.Y., Evelyn Ellett of Oakwood, Ill., Louise Ferguson of Parishville, N.Y., and Jeanette Cecil of Hillsborough, N.C.; one son, B.T. Tatem Jr. of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Ruby Armeniox of Greensboro, N.C., and Annie Mae Taitz of Virginia Beach; seven brothers, Fred Tatem, Otis Tatem, Rev. Frank Tatem, Floyd Tatem, Johnny Tatem, and Marvin Tatem, all of Virginia Beach, and Rev. Willie E. Tatem of Rockville, Md.; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Harold P. Tatem.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Charity United Methodist Church by the Rev. William E. Stanley. Burial will be in Charity Cemetery. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, and other times at 1940 Gum Bridge Road, in Virginia Beach.
