United States Attorney Janice McKenzie Cole, who serves North Carolina's 44-county Eastern District, will be the guest speaker for the Dare County Schools ``Red Ribbon'' Celebration on Saturday.
The celebration will get under way at 9 a.m. in front of the Dare County Courthouse in downtown Manteo. In case of rain, the event will be held at Manteo High School.
Dare Schools student services director Naomi Hester said the local celebration is part of the nationwide red ribbon campaign, which has been observed annually since 1988.
The program encourages people to wear a red ribbon as a symbol for eliminating drug use.
Musical performances are planned by the junior choir of Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church, the Manteo Middle School Jazz Band and the group, Positive Force. Manteo Elementary and Manteo High students will take part in the program.
Red ribbons will be available for all participants to wear and share.
