Mertie G. Everton, 91, of the 1000 block of Justis Street, died Oct. 24, 1995.
She worked for the U.S. Postal Service during World War II and was a native of Gum Neck, N.C. She was the widow of John Ocle Everton and she recently attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church. She attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church for many years. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan E. Ramsey.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Debra R. Tew of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Troy D. Ramsey and Joseph B. Ramsey; and three great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Nicholas Ramsey and Casey Tew.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Ted Bashford and the Rev. Robert E. Hobson Jr. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
