VIRGINIA D. GRIFFEN

Virginia D. Griffen, 74, died Oct. 23, 1995, in a local hospital.

She was a retired bookkeeper and homemaker. She was a native of Columbus, Ohio, and was the widow of Davis L. ``Jack'' Griffen. She was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church and was a volunteer at the library and the Care Closet of Ocean View Baptist Church. She was also a volunteer at DePaul Classic Care and was a 1938 graduate of Maury High School.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Sharon G. and Gary E. Knapp, Deborah G. and Donald L. Rogers, both of Norfolk, Robin G. and Denny P. Cobb of Virginia Beach; one son and his wife, Joel Richard and Alison Griffen of Portsmouth; brother, Francis Dreisbach, of Newport News; two granddaughters, Tonya Leigh Rogers and Kerrey Grace Brittain; and two grandsons, David A. Knapp and Gavin Brittain.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by Dr. David N. Clay in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the service the family will receive friends at Mrs. Griffen's residence. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Care Closet, Ocean View Baptist Church. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
