An Elizabeth City man will be sentenced Thursday for two winter shootings, one of which resulted in death.
Tracey Brite, 19, of the 300 block of Beechwood Ave., pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder and felony assault in separate cases, Assistant District Attorney Mike Johnson said.
On March 17, Brite shot to death Anthony T. Saunders, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., at the American Legion Hut on South Martin Street. More than 100 people had gathered there for a private birthday party, police said at the time of the killing. Witnesses said the shooting had occurred during a fight.
Brite had been released on bond March 9 after being arrested for shooting a man in the leg Feb. 21, apparently in a fight over a girl, police said at the time.
He pleaded guilty to felony assault in that case.
Under a plea agreement, Brite's sentence for the felony assault will run at the same time as the second-degree murder sentence, court records show.
