BEWARE CHESAPEAKE COUNCIL'S COLDNESS

Having lived in Chesapeake for 23 years, I have seen city managers and City Councils come and go. For many of those years, Jim Rein served as assistant city manager and finally moved up to first chair.

But no matter what position Jim Rein held, some things never changed. He stayed responsive to citizens no matter what their political party, and he was unfailingly courteous.

I don't presume to know what political forces were being played out when City Council ousted Mr. Rein, but the manner in which it was done says more about the character of the City Council members than it does about Jim Rein.

If they can treat a 23-year dedicated employee with such dismaying coldness, we need to seriously consider just how much concern they would have for us ordinary citizens.
