TWO SCHOOLS CITED

Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. will honor two Northeastern North Carolina schools as ``Entrepreneurial Schools'' for their willingness to try new classroom approaches to help students learn.

The schools are among about a dozen in the state that will be recognized at a banquet Friday at the North Raleigh Hilton.

Cape Hatteras School in Buxton was cited for setting up a new, flexible class schedule that includes optional early dismissal for students on Fridays. The schedule gives students time for tutoring sessions on tough subjects and gives teachers extra training time.

The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools were recognized for finding new ways to involve the community, including businesses, in its schools and has given teachers and principals more flexibility to find what works best in their classrooms. by CNB
