Well, boys and ghouls, it's another Halloween on the Outer Banks and some of your favorite haunts plan celebrations.
Kelly's Restaurant and the Neurocktix on Halloween go together like ghosts and goblins.
For the 11th consecutive year, the Outer Banks' premier party band rocks the house at the Nags Head night spot. Cash and gift certificates will be up for grabs in the costume contest. So wear your Halloween best.
A ``Name the Mummy'' contest highlights the Halloween night celebration at Maione's in Nags Head. (My suggestion: Mummy Dearest.) There will also be a best-costume contest. Maione's manager Joe Maione promises some other surprises.
A best-costume contest and a best-carved pumpkin contest are part of Woody's Lighthouse Cafe's festivities. There won't be any live music, but staffers say it will be a party.
Goombays Grille and Raw Bar in Kill Devil Hills has two local bands for its fourth annual celebration. Alternative head bangers Manday Huge and Spoonhenge share the Halloween night bill. (One suggestion: Set up a mosh pit and let the dancers do the monster mosh.)
Goombays will provide pumpkins for its carving contest. Also on tap is a costume contest. Gift certificates will be awarded to the best in each contest.
``Tuesdays are usually a washout,'' says Goombays manager Carter Blakely. ``But our Halloween parties are blowouts.''
The Outer Banks' best singer/guitarist, Phil Chestnutt, is the entertainment for Mulligan's Oceanfront Grille's third annual Halloween night party.
Mulligan's staff will don costumes for the night.
``Even the cook will be in costume,'' says manager Chuck Powell.
Lance's Seafood Bar in Nags Head offers Halloween games and a costume contest for its Tuesday night celebration. John Harper - yes, me - will be the disc jockey, spinning the Halloween hits.
The Black Pelican Seafood Co. in Kitty Hawk plans a Monday night Halloween celebration. Manday Huge is the entertainment. And imagine this: There is a costume contest!
For those planning Halloween parties at home, here are John Harper's five hottest Halloween hits. These tunes are guaranteed to keep the party rocking:
``Thriller'' by Michael Jackson.
``Monster Mash'' by Bobby ``Boris'' Pickett.
``Spooky'' by Classics 4 or Santana or Atlanta Rhythm Section.
``Haunted House'' by Gene Simmons (not the Kiss guitarist).
``Purple People Eater'' by Sheb Wooly. MEMO: John Harper covers Outer Banks entertainment for The Carolina Coast.
