WARNING! Scoring against the Cox field hockey team can be hazardous.
Behind 3-0 midway through the second quarter, Bayside got on the board only to have the Falcons explode for four unanswered goals en route to a 7-1 victory in a Beach District championship game moved to ODU's Foreman Field because of muddy conditions at Cox.
In the regular-season meeting between last year's state finalists, the Marlins closed the gap to 2-1 in the second half only to fall 5-1.
In the last two years, Bayside has been the only team to really challenge six-time defending state champion Cox (16-0).
Cox keeper Kim Iman has been scored on only five times - three by Bayside - in 38 games spanning two seasons.
Cox had jumped to a 3-0 advantage on first-half goals by Catherine McCallum, Kim Miller and Katie McDonald.
Then, with 15:14 left in the game, Dawn Bell took a scorching long corner hit from Amber Stout and beat Iman to make it 3-1.
From there, it was all Cox as the Falcons extended their winning streak to 43 games.
Lauren Crenshaw scored on a penalty corner assist from McDonald two minutes after Bayside (13-2) scored. Three minutes later, Miller scored again after Crenshaw stopped a penalty corner feed from McDonald.
McDonald followed on a feed from Miller, and Miller netted her 56th goal of the season on assists from Brianne Baylor and McDonald to round out the scoring. by CNB
