By the luck of the draw, Kecoughtan became the last team to qualify for the post-season playoffs in Eastern Region football.
Kecoughtan, Western Branch and Phoebus tied for the fourth position in the Division 5 playoffs, all with 8-2 records. The first tiebreaker is the Virginia High School League power rating.
Kecoughtan and Western Branch were still tied with 130 points. Phoebus was two points behind.
A drawing is the next tiebreaker.
In a drawing between Kecoughtan and Western Branch, conducted by region chairman Paul Palombo at Todd Stadium in Newport News Saturday, Kecoughtan won the No. 4 seeding and will play top-seeded Deep Creek next Friday night at 8 o'clock at Oscar Smith.
Second-seeded Hampton will meet third-seeded Granby at Darling Stadium.
``It's real frustrating that the tie couldn't be broken on the football field,'' said Western Branch coach Lew Johnston.
The Division 6 pairings were determined Friday. No. 1 seed Green Run will play fourth-seeded Kempsville at Kellam and No. 2 seeded Tallwood will meet No. 3 Indian River at Princess Anne. by CNB
