Veva Melvyn Chesson, 93, died Nov. 13, 1995.
She was a native of Roper, N.C., and the widow of Luther Vernon Chesson. She was a self-employed seamstress and a member of Church of Christ.
She is survived by a sister, Lela C. Palmer of Darlington, S.C.; numerous grandchildren, including Judith Milteer of Chesapeake and Paula Phillips of Portsmouth; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Ruth Stack and Doris Sturgis, and by two sons, Gordon Chesson and L.V. Chesson Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery, Roper, by Jimmie Gribble. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the Zion Chapel Church of Christ on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family will be 3504 Collins Blvd., Chesapeake.
