Edith Eulala Horne Council, age 94, a resident of Ivor, died on Monday, Nov. 13, 1995, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk.
A lifelong resident of Southampton County, Mrs. Council was the daughter of the late James Harrison and Elizabeth Hart Horne. At the time of her death, Mrs. Council was the oldest living member at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church in Zuni. She was the widow of Benjamin Alton Council.
She is survived by a daughter, Edith C. Cobb; three sons, Wayland H. Council, B. Alton Council Jr., and Emerson W. Council, all of Ivor; seven grandchildren, Mate Cobb, Hart Council, Billie Faye Coleman, Beverly C. Bryant, Michele C. Bishop, Joudy Lynn Brady, Dana M. Balint; nine great-grandchildren, Paul Cobb, Brandon Council, Ryan Council, Steven Coleman, Ginny Holloway, Michael Bryant, Patrick Bryant, Francis Bishop, and Rebecca Bishop.
Funeral services will be held at Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield on Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Steve Bradshaw and the Rev. J. Waverly Horne. Burial will be in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Building Fund, the Cemetery Fund, or to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
