A 26-year-old Manteo man who escaped from police custody June 9 while attending a probable cause hearing in Dare County District Court was recaptured last week in Portsmouth, Va., Sheriff A.L. ``Bert'' Austin said.
Arthur O'Bryan Spruill, who was facing felony drug charges in Dare County, is being held without bond for felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of cocaine with the intent to sell and deliver, felony manufacturing of a controlled substance and escape from custody.
Spruill, a resident of Burnside Road, became a fugitive after running away from officers inside the courthouse. He was rearrested following an investigation by the Dare County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Portsmouth Police Department.
