Norfolk State quarterback Aaron Sparrow has been named the CIAA's offensive player of the year for the second consecutive season, sharing the honor with Winston-Salem State running back Richard Huntley.
Sparrow, who passed for 3,434 yards and 32 touchdowns this season, is one of four Norfolk State players named to the CIAA first team.
Joining him on the squad are senior wide receiver James Roe, sophomore tight end Ronald Boone and senior offensive tackle Kenny McDaniel.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Sparrow led all of Division II in total offense this season with an average of 330 yards per game, outdistancing runner-up Lance Funderburk (322.6 per game). He also finished ninth in Division II in passing efficiency and only Fairmont State's Jarrod Ferguson threw more touchdown passes (35).
Huntley led Division II in rushing, averaging 188.9 yards per game and running for 16 touchdowns. He finished with 6,289 career rushing yards, falling just 31 yards shy of Johnny Bailey's all-time record for all divisions, set at Division II Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Roe led the CIAA in receiving despite being injured much of the season. He hauled in 64 receptions for 1,251 yards and 15 touchdowns, set a Division II record for consecutive games with a touchdown catch (15) and set Division II's all-time career receiving yardage mark with 4,478 yards.
Boone was seventh in the CIAA in receiving with 49 receptions for 585 yards and five touchdowns.
Joining McDaniel on the offensive line is Portsmouth native Virgil Moore, a junior offensive guard from Wilson High.
Virginia State defensive back Telly Priester, who picked off eight passes this season, was named defensive player of the year.
