Will any team be more than a speed bump on Old Dominion's path to a fifth consecutive Colonial Athletic Association title?
Most likely, no. Although James Madison has challenged the Lady Monarchs and snapped ODU's 48-game CAA win streak last year, from one end of the bench to the other, no CAA team can match up.
Virginia Commonwealth joins the league this year, led by the youngest coach in Division I women's basketball, 25-year-old Peggy Sells.
East Carolina will get a lot of attention with Hall of Famer Anne Donovan heading into her first year as a head coach. The former ODU assistant and three-time All-American will make the trip back to Norfolk on Feb. 4.
ODU's success last year was due in part to a pair of foreign players. The trend toward signing internationals has spread to other teams in the league, which boasts players from Canada, England, Portugal, Belgium, Sweden and Mozambique. ILLUSTRATION: [Side Bar]
