ADMIRALS ADD TV TO THEIR MEDIA ARRAY

The Hampton Roads Admirals' games are on radio, they have a radio call-in show and they've had daily radio updates for some time.

Now they have their own half-hour TV show.

``Offsides'' with Brendan Curley began airing at 3 p.m. Sundays this week on Cox Cable's Channel 11. The show will include game highlights and interviews conducted by Curley, who played for the Admirals the previous two years.

``Along with the radio shows, we feel this completes the cycle,'' said Admirals owner Blake Cullen.

This week's guest will be Admirals coach John Brophy, and Curley promises an intriguing interview.

``We talked about the olden days going back to his childhood all the way up to the present,'' Curley said. ``It was a side of John I'd never seen.''

Curley decided to do the show for personal reasons: He wants one day to be a TV sports anchor but lacked the on-camera experience.

``I finally decided, `Why not try my own thing?' '' Curley said.

LEAGUE NEWS: Cullen will attend an East Coast Hockey League executive committee meeting next Wednesday in Charlotte, where the main thrust will be reviewing expansion options.

Representatives in no fewer than 10 cities have expressed some level of interest in joining the ECHL: Evansville, Ind., Philadelphia and Reading, Pa., Wilmington, Del., Savannah, Ga., Baton Rouge, La., Camden and Atlantic City, N.J., Columbia, S.C., and Memphis, Tenn.

Other items on the agenda include an update on where the league stands in negotiations with the Professional Hockey Players Association - salary cap, veterans rules, off-ice insurance and transportation are the major items - and possible changes in the ECHL All-Star Game format.

This year's format most likely will not change - the game is in Tallahassee on Jan. 23 - but next year's format could be affected. Cullen long has favored an All-Star team playing the game's host team.

SAURDIFF'S RETURN: Goalie Corwin Saurdiff, who has been sidelined much of the season with colitis, expects to return to the ice to work out with the Admirals Dec. 5. Until then, he is undergoing off-ice conditioning. by CNB
