The body of a Wanchese fisherman was recovered Saturday near Pirates Cove Marina, where he launched his boat to work his nets nearly two weeks ago .
Funeral services are pending for Neil Joseph Cordeiro, 55, who had fished here since coming from Florida in 1994.
Dare County spokesman Charles Hartig said Cordeiro was returning at night from his nets in Croatan Sound when his 14-foot boat apparently hit a buoy and he was pitched into the water Nov. 12.
A widespread search at the time failed to find his body and efforts were called off, but the search was resumed at the request of the family.
``We wanted to make sure every effort was made to ensure the body was recovered for proper burial,'' Hartig said.
Hartig said Sandy Sanderson, Dare County's emergency management director, coordinated the search efforts of the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission, the state Emergency Management Office, the Wildlife Resources Commission and the state Highway Patrol.
