Regarding the Nov. 11 article by Dale Eisman concerning the Navy's stand-down day, I quote, ``The idea is good but changes will take years due to the Navy's size.''
The size of the armed forces has little to do with the fact that the plan will not work. It is not the responsibility of the military to teach values. Those values should be taught long before our youth join the services.
Unfortunately, broken families, schoolchildren who feel they know more than their parents, and teachers and parents who are too busy working only contribute to the lack of values.
Let parents, schoolteachers and religious leaders begin teaching values to children and teens before they join the services.
