GUSTY DAY WASN'T FIT FOR ANGLERS OR FISH

A chilly and gusty wind, rough seas and dirty water combined to keep fishing to a minimum along most of the Dare Coast Thursday.

The only appreciable action was reported from the Manns Harbor area in Croatan Sound, where striped bass fishing was fairly good. Fish were landed by anglers trolling bucktails and Rat-L-Traps near the bridge and by fishermen casting from the shore on the west end of the bridge's north side.

There was no pier action along the northern beaches except at Jennette's, where a nice striped bass was lost when the hook straightened out.

Surf fishing also was slow from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. A couple of striped bass were taken around Oregon Inlet Wednesday night, but little action was reported during the day Thursday. A good run developed on the north side of the inlet late Thursday afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet, fish also were scarce. A handful of speckled trout were landed in sloughs near the Pier, and few were near the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.

Fishing was slow along the beach from Cape Point to Hatteras Inlet.

No offshore trips were run along the Dare Coast Thursday because of rough seas.

Speckled trout and striped bass fishing should resume this weekend, as the weather forecast projects warm weather and light winds.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 51 degrees Thursday. by CNB
