A front-page story last Sunday on the future of aircraft carriers had an error about the carrier Hornet. The carrier in the photo, the Hornet (CV-12), was indeed commissioned in 1943. However, the first air raid on Japan, in April 1942, was made from a previous Hornet (CV-8). That Hornet was commissioned in 1941 and lost at the Battle of Santa Cruz in October 1942. by CNB
