H.E. SNELL JR.

H.E. ``Stoney'' Snell Jr., 67, died Nov. 29, 1995, in Tracy Community Memorial Hospital, Stockton, after a long illness.

He was born July 2, 1928, in Beckley, W.Va. Mr. Snell was preceded in death by his son, Rodney L. Snell; his sisters, Louise Gatling and Vada Tickle.

Mr. Tracy had lived in Portsmouth, Va., until 1956 when he moved to Tracy. He worked for various auto dealerships, the most recent being Jim Turner Dealership in Manteca. He retired in 1990. Mr. Snell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from September 1946 to December 1947 as a squad leader of 12 men with the 12th Cavalry in Tokiyoina, Japan. He was a member of Tracy Golf and Country Club, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a past member of the Tracy Police Reserves where he had served as captain, and was also a past president of Tracy Breakfast Lions. He was an avid golfer.

Mr. Snell is survived by his wife of 47 years, Edna W. Snell of Tracy; son, Brian L. Snell and daughter-in-law, Tracie of San Jose, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Rose Snell of Ripon, Calif.; brothers, Bradford L. Snell of Portsmouth, Ronald Lampkins of Virginia Beach; and grandchildren, Ryan and Rocky Snell of Ripon, and Ryan and Tabitha Snell of San Jose.

Hotchkiss Mortuary Chapel, Tracy, is in harge. Inurnment will be private. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, San Joaquin Unit, 207 East Alpine Ave., Stockton, Calif. 95204, or to the Eastern Star Cancer Dressing, c/o Mount Oso Masonic Lodge, Tracy Boulevard and West Carlton Way, Tracy, Calif. 95376.
