A crowd gathered on Main Street Saturday to watch the Downtown
Christmas Parade, co-sponsored by the Downtown Suffolk Association
and the Suffolk Jaycees. Santa Claus rode on horseback.. Trophies
were awarded to winning entries in four categories: best float,
First Baptist Christian School, Suffolk; best high school band,
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Suffolk; best marching unit/drill team,
Antioch Drum and Flag Corps sponsored by the Christian Antioch
Church of God & Christ, Portsmouth; and best equestrian unit, Cobb
Stable, Suffolk.
