John Samuel ``Jack'' Ridout, born July 9, 1916, in Petersburg, suddenly departed this life Dec. 4, 1995, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Herbert C. and Grace Phillips Ridout. Mr. Ridout retired from Carolina Trailways with 37 years of service. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Chester Baptist Church, and a member of Chester Masonic Lodge (NU)94 A.F.&A.M., a member of Scottish Rite and Richmond Area Temple Shrine, he was past president of the Shane Oriental Band for two years and past president of Petersburg Shrine Club.
Mr. Ridout is survived by his wife, Grace Conyers Ridout of 54 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Bradley and Susan Ridout of Virginia Beach, and C. Stuart and India Sue Brittle Ridout of Chester, Va.; three grandchildren, Ms. JoAnn M. Ridout of Virginia Beach, John S. Ridout and Gregory S. Ridout, both of Chester; brother and sister-in-law, Murrell L. and Anna Ridout of Marlton, N.J.; aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights, Va., by the Rev. Edward J. Stansfield. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. Flowers are welcomed, but contributions may be made to the Shriners Cripple Children's Hospital, c/o Petersburg Shrine Club, Robert W. Tatum, 118 Hampton Drive, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834 or to the Chester Baptist Church Building Fund.
