Elder Shelton Edsel Griffin, 47, of the 6400 block of Duquesne Place, died Dec. 5, 1995, in Sentara Bayside Hospital, Virginia Beach.
Mr. Griffin, an elder, was retired from the religious field. He was a native of Norfolk and was a director and coordinator of Churches of God in Christ in Sierra Leone, West Africa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra Griffin of London, England, and Shelandria Lee of Bon Wier, Texas; son, Xavier C.S. Griffin of Virginia Beach; mother, Rev. Annette R. Smith of Chesapeake; stepfather, Claude Smith of Chesapeake; two sisters, Annette G. Fentress and Diane T. Smith of Virginia Beach; two brothers, the Rev. Hubert H. Griffin of San Antonio, Texas, and the Rev. Vernon K. Griffin of San Bernardino, Calif.; three stepbrothers, Claude Smith Jr. of Maryland, Peter Smith and Andrew Smith of Chesapeake; two grandchildren; Paulette E. Griffin and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Cary Johnson Jr. in Gabriel Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Chesapeake. Burial is in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will be at 6336 Dickinson Way, Virginia Beach. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
