The National Park Service, in partnership with the National Capital Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, will dedicate its newly restored 1903 Wright Flyer replica Sunday.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. It is part of the anniversary commemorating the Wright brothers' successful flights of 1903.
Cape Hatteras Group Superintendent Russell W. Berry will give special recognition to the AIAA for its contribution in restoring the replica.
A specially designed dedication card, with a sample of the Egyptian cloth used during the restoration to cover the wings of the flyer, will be given to those attending the 30-minute free event.
Other events Sunday include The First Flight Society's 92nd anniversary celebration at 9 a.m., and The Children's Flight Festival with the National Park Service and Kitty Hawk Kites from 1 to 4 p.m.
The visitor center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry into the park and participation in all activities is free.
