When the need arises, angels appear.
On Nov. 20, my wife, Helen, and I were returning home following a visit with my sister in Virginia Beach. We stopped for some last-minute shopping at Military Crossing.
While Helen was shopping , I experienced an intestinal hemorrhage and passed out. I awoke in a pool of blood and surrounded by EMS personnel who transported me to Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital, where I spent the next three days. The doctors and staff of the hospital provided the treatment required in a very pleasant, courteous and professional manner, making my stay as pleasant as possible. I am happy to report that the condition abated without requiring any invasive procedure and that I am apparently on the mend.
Helen tells me that when I passed out, a nurse by the name of Jennifer appeared and took charge of the situation until the EMS team arrived. Nancy Spainhour called 911, took Helen to the hospital and called to check on my condition several times during my hospitalization. It is my understanding that fire department personnel also responded to the call.
All of these people responded unselfishly, to the urgent need of another human being, in the spirit of the Good Samaritan. I am grateful to each and pray for the blessings of God in their lives.
