Willis Carlton Ellis, 76, of the 300 block of Burleigh Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 1995, at his residence. He was affectionately known around the world as ``Clampot.''
He was retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines and was a member of the American Legion Post (NU)60; the Fraternal Order of Eagles; Seattle Aerie (NU)1; the Retired National Maritime Union and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lamberts Point Lodge (NU)99. He was a Methodist.
Mr. Ellis was born in Norfolk, Va., and was the son of the late Willis John and Martha D. Martin Ellis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie P. Ellis.
Survivors include three sisters, Lois Ellis Hudson of Chesapeake, Annette Ellis Cochran of Norfolk, and Lorraine Ellis Arthur of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Twiford Funeral Home, Ghent Chapel, Norfolk, on Sunday, Jan. 7, 1996, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Charles Hubbard and the Rev. W.D. Keene. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made to the Sentara Home Care and Hospice Services, 8 Koger Executive Center, Norfolk, Va. 23502 or Zion Grace United Methodist Church, 1440 W. Little Creek Road, Norfolk, Va. 23505.
