W. ALTON BYRD

Wallace Alton ``Turk'' Byrd, 58, of 105 Tan Oak Court, died Dec. 21, 1995.

A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Jesse H. and Lillian Benton Byrd. Mr. Byrd retired from the Ford Motor Company in April, 1987, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and had served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Jean P. Byrd; two brothers, Jesse Q. Byrd of Suffolk, Donald L. Benton of Petersburg; a sister, Peggy G. Benton of Petersburg; a nephew, Keith Byrd of Norfolk; five godchildren, Pete Parker Jr., Donna Carslon, Scott Michael, Carey Michael and David Umphlett.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Nansemond Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va., or to a charity of choice.
