Two 16-year-olds with semi-automatic handguns shot to death a 25-year-old man at a residence on W. Queen Street in downtown Hampton early Thursday morning.
The victim has been identified as Leslie O. McKay, said Donnie Moore, spokesman for the Hampton Police Department. McKay, formerly a resident of Newport News, was shot more than once in the abdomen, Moore said. He was pronounced dead at Riverside Regional Medical Center at 1:47 a.m.
Police know the identity of both suspects, Moore said, and were seeking them Thursday night. Moore would not say if either suspect was from Hampton.
Moore said the incident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. at 339 W. Queen St. Witnesses said the two teenagers were talking with McKay in the living room of the residence when they suddenly produced the handguns and fired several shots. Both suspects fled.
No motive has been identified, but nearby residents said illegal drug activity is common on that section of W. Queen Street.
``It's bad all up and down this street,'' said a clerk at Watkins Supply, located across the street from the shooting.
