IN THE COLD, EVEN THE FISH SEEM TO BE BUSY ELSEWHERE

Fishing along the northern beaches was very slow Thursday. Chilly winds kept even the most hearty anglers indoors.

However, on Wednesday, South of Oregon Inlet, one striped bass was landed in the surf from behind the Buxton motels.

Fishermen along the beach south of Cape Point reported good catches of speckled trout. Most of the 3-to-5-pound fish were taken on Mirrolures in colors 808 and hot pink.

Scattered speckled trout were landed on smoke-colored grubs along the beach near Frisco Pier early Thursday morning.

Striped bass were plentiful again around the Manns Harbor bridge. The few anglers who braved the cold temperatures caught all the fish they wanted, although they had to release them since the season allows keepers only on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The inland striper season ends at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Low water temperatures along the northern beach have brought action to a halt. A few moderate days should improve fishing possibilities.

The water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 44 degrees Thursday. by CNB
