APPOINTED BY BASNIGHT

Chuck Thompson of Nags Head has been appointed to the Energy Conservation Committee by North Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore Marc Basnight. The Energy Conservation Committee has been established to study ways to promote energy conservation and the use of renewable energy resources in the state.

Thompson is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Basnight also announced that Johnny Tillett of Manteo and Janet Rose of Maple have been appointed to the Education Issues Committee. The Education Issues Committee has been established to study Community College Education Improvement Issues, school building dispositions, teacher tenure, performance evaluation, and incentives.

Tillet, a 1984 graduate of Wingate University, is a native of Dare County with more than 11 years' experience in Parks and Recreation Administration. He recently resigned as head of the Dare County Parks and Recreation Department.

Rose, a native of Currituck County, teaches first grade at Central Elementary in Maple. She obtained both her bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education at East Carolina University. During the past 13 years, Rose has taught kindergarten, third grade, and eighth grade all with the Currituck County School System. by CNB
