Joseph Morton ``Moten'' Daughtrey, 77, a resident of Wakefield, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 1995, at Walnut Hill Convalescent Center, Petersburg.
He was born in Wakefield and was the son of the late Richard Tazewell and Mary Virginia Parker Daughtrey. His wife was the late Fannie Mae Ott Daughtrey. He belonged to the Wakefield Baptist Church and the Sussex County Post 10438, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Army, 29th Division, 116th Infantry, and survived the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach. He was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge. He was a retired painter.
He is survived by three daughters, Jo Anne D. Dunker and Kathryn Parker Daughtrey, both of Wakefield, Mary Elizabeth D. Moore of Mechanicsville; six grandchildren; nieces and cousins.
Graveside services will be held in the Wakefield Cemetery today at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Ron Carlberg. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad. Friends may call at the Jo Anne Dunker residence, 212 East Church St., Wakefield. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is handling arrangements.
