BUDGET NEEDED TO PROTECT JOBS

One of your Dec. 3 MetroNews articles reported that the Norfolk Naval Shipyard has no plans of cutting its current work force through the summer of 1996. The agency's realignment is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, under a regulatory change to cut cost from our overhead expense.

An area congressional representative identified that ``a steady stream of work is coming its way in the next few months.'' But Congress is battling now. The national election cycle is next year.

All federal employees must become very politically active in order that we can elect and/or re-elect the congressional, senatorial and presidential representatives who will look out for our interests and support America's infrastructure.

Workers are being asked to take it on the chin when job reductions and management misalignments are wide open. Let's come together to do what we must to make some necessary changes.

If our elected officials cannot reach a budget now, what will happen when the 1997 fiscal budget is being debated?
