A BONFIRE OF REGRETS, a skyful of fireworks and performances ranging from opera to gospel - First Night Norfolk promises something for everyone on New Year's Eve.
And with many events beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, the fun isn't limited to those hardy enough to last until midnight. While there's a lengthy list of performances schedule, the festivities, sponsored by Festevents, also include plenty of hands-on stuff. Revelers can create masks and costumes, join a street parade and add their regrets and resolutions to sculptures.
The events begin in Ghent, move into downtown and end at Town Point Park. Free trolley service will shuttle folks between the sites.
While some outside events are free, there are about 40 performances in such tony locations as the Harrison Opera House and Wells Theater that are all open to those who buy a button.
The buttons, designed by local artists, are $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 10 and under. They are available at the Military Circle Mall customer service booth, Norfolk Festevents (120 W. Main St., Norfolk), all Virginian-Pilot offices and at First Night events.
