Edna Louise Spruill Mecalis, 81, a life long resident and one of the first families that moved to Chesapeake Beach in 1930, died Dec. 28, 1995, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Mecalis, a homemaker, worked at the Naval Supply Center for 17 years. She was a life long resident of the area and a member of Haygood United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Albin Mecalis; two daughters, Susanne Harrell Thurman and Linda Harrell Monroe, both of Virginia Beach; a son, Michael T. Harrell of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, David, Diane, Scott, Debbie, Warren, Stephen; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond W. and Edna Vellines Spruill.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. Alan G. Reifsnyder. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family requests that memorials be made to Haygood United Methodist Church Chapel Renovation fund. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
