Dvora Weisberg, a visiting assistant professor in classical studies and religion at the College of William and Mary, will speak at a joint Torah Fund luncheon of the Sisterhoods of the Tidewater conservative synagogues at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at Gomley Chesed Synagogue, 3110 Sterling Point Road.
Weisberg has been an instructor in Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary and also has served on the faculty of the Wexner Heritage Foundation and the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership. She has contributed to two books: ``Daughters of the King: Women in the Synagogue'' and ``Four Centuries of Jewish Women's Spirituality.''
Raised in San Francisco, she received a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University, graduating summa cum laude. A paper, ``Can the Demands of Jewish Feminists Be Met Within the Halakhic System?', earned her highest honors in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis.
She received a master's degree and doctorate from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Her doctoral dissertation dealt with the evolution of religious and intellectural concerns in the Babylonian Talmud.
Weisberg is married to Rabbi Neal Scheindlin. They are the parents of Micah Shaul Scheindlin and Noah Ariel Scheindlin.
