Architect John Paul Hanbury, a Portsmouth native, will talk about ``Architecture as a Constant Companion'' at the Second Tuesday Forum, at noon Jan. 9 at the Commodore Theater, 421 High St.
Hanbury, chairman of Hanbury Evans Newill Vlatta & Company, will discuss the role of architecture and the impact structures play in everyday life.
Hanbury is affiliated with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Historic Resources, and the Virginia Historic Landmarks Board, among other organizations, and has been instrumental in the restoration of a number of buildings here.
He was responsible for the adaptive reuse of the 1846 Courthouse, which houses the city's art galleries.
In addition to his professional activities, Hanbury has been active at both the regional and state level in various arts organizations, including the Business Consortium for the Arts, the Portsmouth Fine Arts Commission which he served as chairman, and the Cultural Alliance of Hampton Roads, which served as president.
The free Tuesday Forum series is sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy, Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation and the Portsmouth Public Library Foundation. The programs are scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month and the entire series this year will be held at the Commodore.
